Find a hotel, cabin, cottage or bed and breakfast in Port Sanilac, Michigan

Coordinates of this location not found

Port Sanilac is on the Southeast Michigan Thumb, on the coast of Lake Huron. It is just 90 minutes north of Detroit, but it seems like an entirely different world. History is everywhere in Port Sanilac – in the oldest continually operating hardware store in Michigan, in the Port Sanilac Light (established in 1886, and a private residence today), and in the numerous historic homes. Visit a Port Sanilac bed and breakfast and visit another time.

The Sanilac County Historic Village and Museum are on the 10-acre, 1853 estate of Dr. Joseph Loop. Imagine what it would be like to learn in the old (150 + years) one-room schoolhouse in the village. Imagine what it would be like to live in the Banner Pioneer Log Cabin, or to stay in a 1937 hunting cabin for a weekend.

Take in a show at the Barn Theatre, on the south end of town. It is one of the few remaining Barn Theatres in Michigan, and it is thriving. Check out the Barn Theatre schedule (the season runs between Memorial Day and Labor Day), find something you like, and book a room in a bed and breakfast.

Port Sanilac hosts the Bark Shanty Festival during the third weekend of July; the carnival comes to town, there is live music and lots of fun activities in town. Be sure to book a room at a bed and breakfast in August for the amazing Antique Boat Show, as well.

Save some time to explore the great outdoors of the Thumb. Try a charter fishing excursion or a scenic cruise of Lake Huron. Tee off at the Huron Shores Golf Club in Port Sanilac, or at one of the dozen golf courses within a forty mile radius. Walk on a sandy beach, or hike among tall trees. Anything is possible on Northeast Michigan’s Thumb.
