Steeped in history, Nahma is a proud lumbering and sawmill community, established as early as 1856. During the golden era of the Big Bay de Noquet Company, our bustling town employed over 1,200 hardworking individuals. Though the timber resources were eventually exhausted, leading to the town’s sale in 1951—a story that captured national attention in Life Magazine—Nahma’s spirit remains unbroken.
Today, Nahma Township is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. With 68 percent of our land (a vast 75,000 acres) federally owned as part of the Hiawatha National Forest, we offer an abundance of natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
