Horicon is most popularly known for the Horicon Marsh, a 32,000-acre complex of open water, wetlands, prairie and woods. The marsh is home to one of the widest arrays of plants, animals and birds in the Midwest. It is also the largest freshwater cattail marsh in North America. There are a number of ways to explore the marsh including canoeing, kayaking, guided boat tours, hiking trails or a stroll on the popular floating boardwalk.

Choose a sightseeing tour or a fall color tour, or even a tour to see a sunset on a Saturday night. The environmentally-friendly pontoon boats will take you into the natural habitat of birds and animals. Each season brings a whole different array of scenery and species to the marsh.
On to The Rock River Water Trail, which is a water trail of the Upper Mississippi River Region. The Rock River Water Trail crosses 5 counties in Wisconsin, 6 counties in Illinois and 37 municipalities. Furthermore, it meanders down a gentle gradient to safely carry the water traveler and recreational enthusiast alike past picturesque rural and scenic landscapes, natural wilderness areas and vibrant urban riverfronts.
Located on State Highway 49, just east of Waupun, WI, are the Horicon “TernPike” Auto Tour and Hiking Trails. This is a paved driving route and three hiking trails along with a floating boardwalk. It also has bicycling and hiking access to the Wild Goose State Trail. Also open year-round is the Main Dike Road. Main Dike Road is open for hiking and bicycling, with pull-offs for wildlife viewing/photography on the eastern portion of the road, therefore, giving trail lovers a combination of activity.
