Dodgeville, Wisconsin, is far more than the nearest town to Governor Dodge State Park. There are a lot of things to do in Dodgeville, and this charming Wisconsin town offers a quality getaway that combines natural beauty, small-town warmth, and Midwestern charm. Located in southwestern Wisconsin, this historic city serves as the gateway to the Driftless Region and is an ideal choice for couples planning an anniversary, elopement, or weekend getaway.

No trip to Dodgeville is complete without a visit to Governor Dodge State Park. It’s one of the largest and most scenic parks in the Wisconsin State Park System, and it is also one of the state’s best-kept secrets. Tucked into the rolling hills of Wisconsin’s Driftless Region, this expansive park offers more than 5,000 acres of rugged beauty, two lakes, waterfalls, scenic rock formations, and miles of hiking and biking trails.

Beyond Governor Dodge State Park, you’ll find plenty more things to do in the area. Explore the city’s cultural side with a stop at the Iowa County Courthouse, the oldest in the state still in use, or take a walking tour of Downtown Dodgeville with its shops and cafes. A short drive to Spring Green brings you to House on the Rock, an architectural attraction featuring unique rooms, unusual collections, and panoramic views. It’s one of the most interesting things to do in Wisconsin, especially for couples seeking something different. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin isn’t too much farther down the road, and is absolutely worth the trip.

About 30 minutes outside Dodgeville, couples will enjoy a wine tasting at Spurgeon Vineyards in their relaxed rural setting. Their signature cranberry wine provides a sweet, local flavor worth trying together.  Three Branches Vineyard and Botham Vineyards and Wine aren’t too far away, either! For dinner, Bob’s Bitchin’ BBQ earns strong reviews for bold flavors and casual atmosphere. If you’re really hungry, join us for the Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championship, drawing food enthusiasts from across the Midwest for creative dishes and live music.

Whether staying at a historic Bed and Breakfast, boutique hotels, or other unique places to stay, Dodgeville, WI, offers a good mix of relaxation, culture, and countryside access. It’s a great place to enjoy anniversary getaways, or to consider for romantic wedding and elopement venues.
