The Main House plus Summer Kitchen listing sleeps up to ten guests.

Upstairs in the main house sleeps up to six. On the second floor, the queen bedroom has windows on three sides, big bold fine art, and a heated mattress pad for chilly nights. Pass through the den to the cozy third floor bedrooms at the top of the house, one with a queen bed and the other with two extra-long twins with mini-split A/C/heat for your comfort. New full bathrooms on the main and second floor.

The enchanting main floor summer kitchen bedroom is surrounded by windows and has access to the screen porch. Up the loft ladder are two more extra-long twins, perfect for kids or for adults who want to feel they're in their own grown-up fort. The house plus the summer kitchen sleeps ten altogether. Great movie- or work-worthy wifi.

The main house is both rustic and elegant. The high ceilings and tall windows feel light and airy contrasted with the sturdy stone walls and the patinaed wood floors. The kitchen is well-equipped (vacation bakers will find a rolling pin, pie plates, jelly roll pans and more!). The locally harvested cherry table and benches and chairs seat up to eight. Put your feet up in front of the gas fireplace in the living room and enjoy the museum-quality fine art all around you. Have a glass of wine on the screen porch and watch the sun set through the pines. Whichever listing you book, you will be the only guests on the property.

About Brisbane House

Welcome to the Brisbane House! Both its builder and distinctive tall and skinny form are noteworthy. William Henry Brisbane was born and raised in the deep South but soon learned he didn’t belong because he vehemently opposed slavery. He made his way to Arena, Wisconsin, where he built this house in 1868 from stone carved from the nearby bluff. Our recent award-winning restoration includes modern comforts and sensitive contemporary design. The home is also a warm, beautiful showcase for art by internationally-known Black artists. Come and stay. Let Dr. Brisbane’s vision and courage inspire you!

Charming Accommodations: The house itself is a breathtaking blend of rustic elegance and modern comfort. Guests can expect light-filled rooms outfitted with tasteful furnishings, comfortable beds and pillows, and vibrant quilts made by the Crownovers’ ancestors. Five bedrooms have seven beds and sleep a total of ten. The compact kitchen has what you need to cook relaxed meals together.

Idyllic Setting: Nestled amidst the river valley bluffs and scenic farmland of rural Wisconsin, Brisbane House offers a tranquil escape. 18 wooded acres envelops the house inviting you to relax. Wander past the flower gardens onto the wooded trails maintained by the Prairie Enthusiasts.

Year-Round Appeal: Whether visiting during the vibrant colors of fall, the snowy landscapes of winter, or the blooming flowers of spring, Brisbane House offers something special year-round. Hike and bike along scenic trails. Fish in nearby streams and boat on the Wisconsin River. Snowshoe through the woods or ski at local ski hills. A fire pit in the yard is inviting any time of year!

Dining Locally: Whether it’s retrieving a Racine Kringle from the freezer and grinding locally roasted coffee beans for the French Press, brewing a cup of herbal tea blended by Sage Meadow, or stepping out to Spring Green (Reunion Restaurant) or Mazomanie (Old Feed Mill) for a hearty meal, guests at Brisbane House are treated to the rich flavors of Wisconsin. Don’t miss the cheese curds at the Arena Cheese Factory down the street!

Attractions: While Brisbane House offers a peaceful retreat, it’s also conveniently located near a variety of attractions and points of interest. Guests can easily explore charming small-town shops and favorite cultural destinations like American Players Theater and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin.
