The National Eagle Center in Wabasha Minnesota

The National Eagle Center is located in the quaint, historic town of Wabasha Minnesota, right on the banks of the Mississippi River. The National Eagle Center is open year-round, but these early winter months are prime viewing for bald eagles in the wild. A visit to this incredible place not only offers excellent viewing opportunities for eagles in the wild along the Upper Mississippi River Valley, but it allows you unprecedented access to these incredible birds. You can get within a few feet of some of the residents as you learn all about them!

This winter, you can also take an “In the Field” Tour with naturalists from the National Eagle Center. The typical eagle viewing season lasts from November through May, which can also coincide with fall tundra swan migration and spring songbird migration. There are two of these tours in February to see Golden Eagles, and then tours in April that focus on nesting Bald Eagles.

Throughout the month of March, the National Eagle Center will also be hosting their Soar With the Eagles program every weekend. 2020 Marks the 27th year of the annual Soar With the Eagles Festival, which features special birds of prey show, bird programs, eagle programs, and more. It’s definitely an exciting and busy time to be visiting the National Eagle Center in Wabasha!

More to do in Wabasha

There’s much more to the Wabasha area than the National Eagle Center. Depending on what it is you like to do, you can spend your days walking the historic streets of downtown Wabasha–there’s even a walking tour you can take–you can go ice fishing, skiing at the Coffeemill Ski Area, or visit what is considered one of the best toy stores in the world, Larks Toys.

Unbeatable Minnesota Lodging

Visiting the National Eagle Center can be a day trip from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, why limit yourself to just one day? As you can see, there’s plenty to see and do in Wabasha, let alone the rest of Southern Minnesota along the Mississippi River. Other great towns to visit include Red Wing and beautiful Lanesboro.

Southern Minnesota is incredibly scenic and certainly worth exploring in the winter. The adventure begins at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, but it certainly doesn’t have to end there! There are a number of Bed and Breakfasts that would be happy to host you this winter. Browse through all of your options in southern Minnesota, and start planning today.
