What better way to celebrate the reawakening of spring than to go chasing Minnesota Waterfalls? This spring, as the winter snow and ice begin to melt, Minnesota’s rivers will swell to their seasonal highs, leaving us with powerful water rushing over the state’s most beautiful waterfalls. It’s absolutely one of our favorite things to do every spring (and at other times of the year, too).

There are a number of waterfalls around the state of Minnesota, and it’s pretty hard to go wrong. If you’re having a hard time choosing where to concentrate your time, we’re here to help. We’ve listed 10 of our favorite Minnesota waterfalls to see this spring. The best part about visiting these waterfalls is the chance to stay at one of our member Bed and Breakfasts!  Find your perfect getaway destination, and book your room today!

Powerful Minnesota Waterfalls You Need to See

In the land of 10,000 lakes, there is certainly no shortage of water!  So it makes sense that there are a huge number of waterfalls in Minnesota, too, and they’re pretty spread out all around the state, which makes for easy viewing this spring. It probably comes as no surprise that a number of these extraordinary Minnesota waterfalls are located within State Parks, either. Minnesota has done a great job of preserving our state’s natural beauty for generations to come!

As you travel around the state witnessing these majestic falls, we invite you to stay at one of our comfortable Bed and Breakfasts. To help you start planning your adventure, here are 10 Minnesota waterfalls that we think you simply can’t miss.

  1. High Falls at Great Portage State Park stands at a towering 120-feet tall and is thus the tallest waterfall in the state.
  2. Hidden Falls in southern Minnesota really isn’t so hidden. They are located in Nerstrand State Park.
  3. If you’re sticking in the metro area of Minneapolis/St. Paul, you can still enjoy plenty of nature, and yes, even waterfalls!  Minnehaha Falls is a picturesque 53-foot waterfall in Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis.
  4. Ramsey Falls, located in Ramsey Park, has earned itself the nickname “Little Yellowstone.” To see why you’ll have to first make the adventure!  Rest assured, it’s worth the effort.
  5. Wolf Creek Falls in Banning State Park is a beautiful Minnesota waterfall. The picturesque cascade, as it falls into the lake below, makes for a truly beautiful picture.
  6. The namesake of Willow Falls State Park, Willow Falls, is one of our favorite waterfalls in the state. It’s on the border with Wisconsin and should be at the top of any waterfall-related itinerary in Minnesota. Nearby Cascade Falls is also worth a stop.
  7. You’ll find the biggest bang for your buck at Gooseberry Falls State Park near Duluth, which has 5 waterfalls in total inside the park. These falls are truly spectacular in spring. While you’re in the area, you shouldn’t miss High Falls at Tettagouche State Park.
  8. Vermillion Falls, located in the urban heart of hastings, is a beautiful 35-foot waterfall.
  9. Minneopa Falls, aptly located in Minneopa State Park, is located in southern Minnesota and is truly worth the effort. This State Park is a lesser-known gem in Minnesota, and the waterfall is the main attraction.
  10. Finally, head to Winnewissa Falls in the Pipestone National Monument area, which is filled with plenty of historic Native American culture.
